Our History

The American Sewing Guild was conceived in 1978 as a consumer program sponsored by the American Home Sewing Association, which was, at the time, the trade organization for the sewing industry. In 1983, ASG was established as an independent non-profit 501-3C organization. There are 124 chapters across the U.S.

 

Our Structure

ASG’s national headquarters is located in Houston, Texas and serves as a link between its chapters. From ASG headquarters, staff members manage the day-to-day operations of the organization including maintaining a data base of members and chapter records, overseeing new chapter development, organizing the annual conference and networking with the larger sewing community and industry.

 

On the local level, our chapters are run on a volunteer basis. We do it because we LOVE sewing and we LOVE ASG!!
