We all know a new dress makes us feel good, so imagine never having had one!  We’ll be making dresses that will be distributed throughout the world. Some will go to the poorest-of-the-poor, and the poor deserve nice things with good workmanship, not just leftovers or hand-me-downs.

You can, of course, make a dress at home and donate it to the Clifton Clippers for this worthy cause. Dress a Girl recommends Simplicity patterns 8102, 2377, 2241 or any pattern that is simple to slip over a girl’s' head without the use of zipper, button or velcro closures. (Note: pillowcase dresses are not accepted,) Cotton/poly blend fabric is preferred. The dresses may be washed in rivers, creeks, watering holes and maybe scrubbed with rocks. Only a cotton/poly will stand up to this.

If you’re considering a fabric from your stash and don’t know the fiber content, here’s how to tell if it is a cotton/poly blend: Take a small scrap and put a flame along the edge. If the fiber curls or melts, then it is a poly/cotton. There should also be some gooey residue left behind when the scrap has finished burning. Cotton, on the other hand, doesn't curl; it stays straight as it meets the flame and leaves ash residue behind,

Dress A Girl carefully screens every dress they receive. We have posted their guidelines here. Please carefully read and follow them so all our donated dresses will brighten some girl’s life.
